Surgeons fight capsular contracture in the same way they treat as asthma. Research studies show that patients taking Accolade (an asthma medication) at the early stages of capsular contracture can improve or even correct the problem. Singulair is another medication that doctors prescribe patients to take once per day; doctors prescribe Accolade for patients to take twice daily. These Leukotriene inhibitors inhibit inflammation in the trachea in the same way that they inhibit inflammation in the capsule around breast implants. However, many doctors prescribe such medications on an off-label basis, meaning that the United State Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have any scientific proof that these medications are safe or effective for treating capsular contracture around breast implants. It is therefore, under the guidance of a physician, the responsibility of the patient to take the medication for its non-intended.
