Non-surgical treatments are effective in some breast implant complications. Risks and benefits in non-surgical treatments for breast implant complications. Non-surgical options for breast implant problems include: Singulair and Accolate Medications, which inhibit chemicals involved in inflammation, have reverse early stages of capsular contracture or tight scar formation around breast implants. The Food and Drug Administration or FDA approved Singulair and Accolate for use in asthma. Use of Singulair and Accolate for breast implant capsular contracture is “off-label.” Off label, the FDA permits use. Drug manufacturer may not market the drugs for off-label problems such as capsular contracture, however. Closed Capsulotomy Closed capsulotomy is breaking-up of scar tissue around breast implants by firm massage. Plastic surgeons may offer closed capsulotomy in early stages of capsular contracture. Early stages include Stage 2 and mild Stage 3 capsular contracture. The implants are firmly squeezed to mechanically release scar tissue. Long-term success of closed capsulotomy is unknown. Closed compression capsulotomy can lead to further complications. Breaking the scar tissue around implants by firm manual pressure can cause bleeding around breast implants (hematoma). Surgery is necessary to drain large hematomas around breast implants. Firm massage of breast implants can lead to breast implant rupture. Ruptured saline or silicone breast implants have been surgically. Antibiotics Breast infections are difficult to treat after breast implant surgery. Antibiotics treat superficial breast infections after breast implant surgery. Deep breast infections are difficult to treat if breast implants are involved. Breast implants have no blood circulation. Breast implant infections do not receive the same dose of antibiotics. Bacterial can shelter themselves from circulating antibiotics by “hiding away” on the breast implants. Breast implant removal is typically necessary in breast implant infections. Replace Breast implants once the infection has fully resolved. Antibiotics for a short duration in mild breast implant infections. Avoid Breast implant removal if the antibiotics are successful. Breast implant removal for moderate to severe breast implants infections. Taping Breast implants may shift position after breast augmentation. Breasts asymmetry is another complication of breast augmentation. Medical grade tape moves breast implants to their ideal positions. Long-term results of taping breasts are unknown. Tactical placement of medical tape probably prevents breast implants from shifting any further from their ideal position. Taping does not permanently return breast implants to a correct position.
